Ford Takes on Storm Name for South American Ranger Concept

In the ASEAN region, including the Philippines, Chevrolet owns the Storm moniker in the pickup truck segment with the Colorado High Country Storm. In Brazil however, it’s the other way around as its crosstown rival, Ford, whipped out the Ranger Storm specially for the Sao Paulo International Motor Show.

Starting with the Ranger Limited trim there (a mix of our XLT and Wildtrak), the Ranger Storm gets the Ranger Raptor treatment. This starts with a new front grille spelling out, “STORM”, a snorkel, 17-inch wheels shod with all-terrain tires, twin took hooks upfront, and LED front fog lights. The roof rails are also made to extend to the cargo bed, forming grab handles in the process.

Based on the 2018 Ranger, the Ranger Storm still doesn’t have the Ranger Raptor and 2019 Ranger Wildtrak’s bi-turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. Instead, it still runs on the old 3.2-liter inline-5 mated to a 6-speed automatic.
