Nissan Unveils Xpander-Based 2019 Livina MPV

The benefits of the Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance is paying off with the introduction of the all-new 2019 Nissan Livina for the Indonesian market. And if it looks familiar, it should: it’s based off the Mitsubishi Xpander.

Nissan scrubs off Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design concept and replaces it with the trademark V-Motion grille. The compound headlight remain with the top part being the LED daytime running lights / park lights while the middle is the halogen headlight and signal indicators. At the back, it is much unchanged from the Xpander.

Inside, Nissan has decidedly taken a more premium approach compared to the Xpander. To this end, the Livina is equipped with leather seating and even a tilt/telescopic steering column. A 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is also available. Furthermore, it also has added features such as a compartmentalized seatback organizer, a underseat tray, rear trunk organizer, and a 12-volt power outlet on all 3 rows. The Livina comes with dual SRS airbags and ABS with EBD. Stability control with hill start assist appear on the highest variant.

Mechanically, the 2019 Nissan Livina gets a 1.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine with Twin VTC or Variable Valve Timing Control. This engine generates 104 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. It’s mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.

Here’s the most interesting part. In Indonesia, the Xpander is priced from Rp 204.1 million (~ P 755,000) to Rp 258.9 million (~ P 958,000). In comparison, the Livina is priced from Rp 198.8 million (~ P 735,000) to Rp 261.9 million (~ P 968,000). This puts the Nissan right square in the same market segment as its Mitsubishi twin, but with added features.

During the launch, Nissan has announced that Indonesia is the first market globally to get the all-new 2019 Livina, hinting at their plans to make it available to other markets, probably including the Philippines. Given the small MPV segment’s growing popularity here, it will most likely arrive here sooner rather than later.
