Honda Cars Philippines is Recalling Recalled Accord, Civic, City, CR-V, and Jazz Units for Airbags

Three years ago, Honda Cars Philippines was one of many automakers who had to issue recalls due to defective Takata airbag inflators. At that time, 19,624 units were affected. And while they were able to fix some of them, it looks like they’ll have to rework 14,074 of these units.

These units, covering the Accord, Civic, City, CR-V, and Jazz need a second replacement of the front passenger airbag inflator. The list consists of:
  • 2003 Honda Accord: 290 units
  • 2001-2005 Honda Civic: 1,651 units
  • 2006-2009 Honda Civic: 225 units
  • 2003-2008 Honda City: 1,652 units
  • 2009 Honda City: 38 units
  • 2003-2006 Honda CR-V: 9,551 units
  • 2007-2009 Honda CR-V: 145 units
  • 2002-2008 Honda Jazz: 500 units
  • 2009 Honda Jazz: 22 units
It was determined that the supplier of the initial replacement had a flaw in the manufacturing process that increased the risk of inflator rupture during airbag deployment which may cause serious injury to vehicle occupants. To correct this, Honda has changed their supplier of airbag inflators.

While there have been no reported cases of injuries, Honda is tasking their 42 authorized dealerships and service centers to replace the defective front passenger airbag inflator for free. The entire process will take just one hour to finish.

Honda Cars Philippines is already in the process of notifying the owners of the affected vehicles.
