The Roma is a Return to Beautiful Ferrari Sportscars

Life after Pininfarina has been mixed for Ferrari. Vehicles designed under its in-house Ferrari Styling Centre are head-turners, but not exactly beautiful. That’s all changed though with the unveiling of its newest sportscar: the Roma.

Taking a clean, minimalist approach, the Roma removes the typically exaggerated detailing seen in sportscars. For instance, the radiator opening is perforated only where necessary, while the wrap-around rear glass incorporates active aero tech to preserve its pure form.

Also unique to the Roma, its cabin is separated into two cells—one for the driver, and the other for the passenger. For the driver, a 16-inch digital instrument cluster provides all the necessary information, while at the center is an 8.4-inch vertical screen for the infotainment.

Underpinned by a new modular platform developed by Ferrari for its latest models, the Roma incorporates the latest weight reduction technologies. Coupled with its turbocharged V8 engine making 620 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque, it has the best power-to-weight ratio in its segment (2.37 kilograms / horsepower). With the requirements of adding a gasoline particulate filter to pass new European emissions laws, Ferrari focused its attention on the exhaust system to improve its sound. In the Roma, the silencers have removed and bypass values have been added. Mated to the engine is a new 8-speed dual clutch for reduced fuel consumption and faster, smoother shifts.

  1. Well, I would say most Ferrari models look beautiful. This new Roma reminds me of a Jaguar F-Type from the side view.
