The 2021 Kia Stonic is Going to Take On the Sub-Compact Segment (w/ Video)

Kia isn’t mincing any words when they said they’re going after the sub-compact sedan/hatchback market with their newest offering: the 2021 Stonic crossover. Priced between P 735,000 to P 925,000 (without discounts), they’re aiming for a big slice in the most competitive (and frankly, the only growing) segment in the automotive industry.

Penned by Kia design guru Peter Schreyer, the Stonic is very European in its design and execution with its sharp, crisp lines. Measuring in at 4,100-mm in length and 1,532-mm in height, it appeals to the practical with its generous 2,570-mm (120 mm longer than other sub-compact sedans) wheelbase. The comfortable and roomy cabin, great for daily drives around the city, is backed up by a 325-liter cargo hold which can grow to 1,155 liters with the rear seats folded down. And with 185 mm (as much as 65 mm higher than sub-compact sedans) of ground clearance, it offers drivers the confidence to tackle Manila’s flash floods.

The Stonic is powered by a 1.4-liter normally-aspirated motor mated to either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. The engine makes 95 horsepower for the three-pedal, and 100 horsepower for the two-pedal version; both versions though generate 132 Nm of torque. Either way, Kia promises peppy responses and excellent fuel efficiency.

Targeted towards young and active individuals, the Stonic comes with unparalleled connectivity thanks to its standard 8-inch touchscreen audio system with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and six speakers. The top-of-the-line EX variant adds smart entry with push-start for the engine and automatic climate control.

As for safety, the Stonic comes standard with dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, and a rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines. The EX adds electronic stability control with hill start assist as well as rear parking sensors.

The Ayala-backed Kia Philippines says the Stonic’s arrival is timely with the market shifting towards those with a strong value-driven proposition. Until its official launch date of October 15, Kia is slashing up to P 60,000 off the SRPs. This means that for a limited time, the Stonic starts at just P 675,000 for the LX MT, moving up to P 785,000 for the mid-range LX AT, before being capped off by the P 875,000 for the EX AT.

The Stonic, just like the other members of the Kia Philippines’s roster, will be offered with up to five-year or 160,000-km warranty, as well as with a 24/7 Roadside Assistance free for five years.

  2. This Kia model reminds me on how HARI has mega-overpriced the I20 Cross Sport. The Hyundai I20 cross Sport 2015 model is even more expensive than this Kia Stonic 2020 model. Ayala has priced this car competitively.
