Some PH Ford Mustangs Might Suffer from a Breaking Brake Pedal

In case you missed it, Ford Philippines has confirmed that selected Mustang sportscars locally are affected by the latest round of recalls surrounding its brake pedal.

Here is Ford Philippines’s statement:

Ford Philippines will reach out to affected Mustang customers. During repair, dealers will replace the brake pedal bracket assembly. Alternatively, owners can also check the Field Service Action Tracker on the Ford website to see if their vehicle is included in the recall programs.
The latest Mustang recall has to do with a defect in its brake pedal bracket material. A switch was made from nylon to polypropylene with “insufficient design margins,” according to documents submitted to the U.S.-based National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA.

This affects Mustangs equipped with the automatic transmission, and not the manual transmission models. The bracket in question was introduced into production on March 4, 2019 and taken out of production on August 13, 2020, so only cars built during that time span are affected.

During sudden stopping, the bracket could snap, making it harder for the driver to brake, according to the recall notice. In the accompanying documents, Ford said it was not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the defect.

In the U.S., the recall is expected to begin in November 16. For the Philippines, Ford will notify affected Mustang owners when they can bring in their cars for the brake pedal bracket replacement.

This is the third recall for the 2020 Mustang, with the other two announced in May. One was due to the “transmission not in park” warning message and associated chime being shorter than intended on 2019-2020 Mustangs, as well as some 2019 Expedition models. The 2020 Mustang was also recalled for an improperly calibrated forward-facing camera, which could impact driver-assist features like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and automatic high beams.
