This is Lexus's First-Ever Production EV

Lexus resisted it for a while, but they’re finally going full-on EV, and their first serial production vehicle to get the treatment? The UX compact crossover. Dubbed the UX300e, it goes on sale in Lexus’s home market of Japan.

Utilizing the GA-C TNGA platform, Lexus engineers worked to give the UX300e an even higher level of quietness to set it apart from other EVs. With wind noise and even pebbles/sand becoming audible due to the lack of engine or transmission sound, Lexus added acoustic glass for the front door, and even turned the battery into a sound insulating wall.

Speaking about the battery itself, engineers placed it in a girder-shaped steel underframe to reduce road surface impacts. This has also enabled them to increase the rigidity of the platform. Other improvements include an aluminum bumper reinforcement and specially-tuned dampers for the rear-end.

Powering the Lexus UX300e is a front-mounted electric motor (4KM). This outputs 203 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. It’s then mated to a lithium-ion battery with a 54.4 kWh capacity enough for a 367-kilometer cruising range. Using a fast charger, it tops up in just 80 minutes or 14 hours using a standard home charger.

Setting the UX300e apart, it gets an underfloor aero cover, unique 17-inch alloy wheels, and standard Apple CarPlay with Android Auto.

In Japan, the Lexus UX300e starts at 5,800,000 yen (P 2.690 million) and tops out at 6,350,000 yen (P 2.94 million). The Japanese luxury carmaker says that they are accelerating EV development, and that by 2025, every single model in their product range will have an all-electric version.
