Nissan Introduces the 2021 Terra

Nissan has just given its Terra a major revamp for 2021. In a break from tradition, it was launched first in the Middle East—a brand-new market for Nissan’s mid-sized 7-seater SUV, where it takes on a different name: X-Terra. Regardless, it brings a bolder style and increased levels of technology.

The 2021 Terra is now differentiated from the refreshed Navara pickup truck on which it’s based on thanks to its brand-new front-end. Designed to reflect first-class refinement, it takes styling cues first seen in the Patrol. It sports a more aggressive front-end with a larger, more upright V-motion grille bookmarked by LED headlights with quad projectors. The bumper also gives a sense of solidity.

Towards the side, the Terra also gains yet another unmistakable Patrol design cue: the front fender accents. At each corner are 18-inch machined alloy wheels. At the back, it gets reworked taillights, now lit with LED light guides as well as a new chrome license plate finisher.

Inside, Nissan has effectively reworked the Terra’s cabin. It sports an entirely new dashboard that’s more modern and upscale. It also gets a new steering wheel and gauge cluster with a built-in 7-inch Advanced Drive-Assist TFT screen. For infotainment, it gets a 9-inch touchscreen system running the Nissan Connect system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. At the back, it continues with an overhead flip down monitor for the rear passengers as well as USB Type C ports. For the first time ever, it’s available with a Bose sound system, too.

Making the Terra much more refined for 2021, it now makes use of sound absorbing glass (acoustic glass). Combined with the Zero Gravity seats and tri-zone climate control, it makes any trip, short or long, comfortable.

For the Middle East, it gets a 2.5-liter gasoline (QR25) engine making 165 horsepower and 241 Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed automatic. For other markets such as ASEAN, it’s expected that it’ll share the 2021 Navara’s 2.3-liter twin-turbo inline-4 making 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. This is also mated to a 7-speed automatic.

The 2021 Terra remains a leader in safety with its full suite of Nissan Intelligent Mobility fatures. It has intelligent emergency braking, intelligent forward collision warning, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, blind spot indicators with rear cross traffic alert, a 360-degree camera, and a segment-exclusive intelligent rear-view mirror.

The 2021 Nissan X-Terra goes on sale in the Middle East in December, with other markets such as ASEAN to follow sometime next year.

  1. That interior is 100x better than the outgoing Terra

    1. Even better than the Montero. Montero has the worst interior IMO. Even the new Mu-X has upped their game in the interior department.

    2. I agree. Now that other manufacturers have stepped up their interiors, the Montero Sport and the Fortuner look really bad and dated. Atleast the Fortuner has leather paddings on the dashboard, but everything else about it is dull and old school. The Montero's dashboard is all hard plastic and looks dull, but atleast the center console design as well as the door trims look high quality and fresh. The new MU-X probably looks the best along with the Rexton, followed by the Everest then the Terra. Last goes to Fortuner and Montero Sport in no particular order (Trailblazer would be here in last too, but it's being discontinued anyway).

    3. I wouldn't rank Montero the same with the Fortuner. The Fortuner last row seats that hangs on the sides makes it in the category with the Crosswind. It's pre-historic. And way under specc'd compared to the Montero. Looks is subjective. It depends on the eyes of the one looking. Some would even want the look of a hanging seats.

    4. That's for the Pre-Facelift, the Facelifted Fortuner now gets More Specs than Before
