GAC Philippines to Launch 7-Seater GN6 MPV in February

GAC Motor is prepping its very own mid-sized MPV fighter with the 2021 GN6. Launching next month, it’s poised to give the likes of the Toyota Innova and Maxus G50 a run for its money.

While details are still being finalized, it’s understood that the 2021 GN6 will be priced competitively—likely not more than P 1.5 million for the top-of-the-line trim. Yet, it will be positioned as a high-value MPV with features such as leather seats, sunroof, a high-efficiency PM 2.5-compliant air filtration system, and more.

Measuring in at 4,780 mm in length, it’s slightly longer than the Innova, while its 2,810 mm wheelbase is longer than even the G50. The unibody architecture with front independent MacPherson Struts and a rear torsion beam axle should also make for car-like ride and handling.

Powering the GN6 is a turbocharged direct-injected 1.5-liter engine. With that, it makes 171 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque—similar to the G50. Unlike the Maxus though, it uses a traditional 6-speed automatic as opposed to a dual-clutch. According to GAC’s internal tests, it should do around 13.15 km/L in a mixed city/highway setting.

With the launch of the 2021 GAC GN6, the mid-sized MPV segment seems to be teeming with new offerings. The question is: would this tempt you away from going the SUV route?
