This is the Most Powerful Production BMW Ever: the 2021 BMW M5 CS

This is the most powerful production BMW ever: the BMW M5 CS. The first time BMW’s mid-sized sedan gets the “CS” treatment, it blends ultra-high-performance with everyday usability.

The numbers alone tell the story, and it’s one that can make even some supercars weep: 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds flat, 0 to 200 km/h in 10.4 seconds, and a top speed (electronically limited) of 304 km/h.

The M5’s turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 has been massaged to develop 635 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque from as low as 1,800 rpm, all the way to 5,950 rpm. Plus, the dual-branch, flap-controlled exhaust system can either deliver a strong or softer acoustic note at the push of a button.

More than just raw power, the M5 CS is also fitted with stronger engine mounts as well as an improved engine oil delivery system to ensure proper cooling and lubrication at all times.

For its chassis, the M5 CS has been optimized to work with track tires, specifically the Pirelli P Zero Corsa track tires measuring 275/35R20 in front and 285/35R20 at the back. The ride height has been dropped by an additional 7 mm, while the springs have been retuned for increased grip.

For stopping power, carbon ceramic brakes are standard with six-piston calipers at the front, and a single-piston caliper at the back.

These lightweight brakes, together with the extensive use of carbon fiber from the front splitter to the mirror caps to the rear spoiler and diffuser contribute to a 70-kilogram weight reduction over the already lightened M5 Competition.

Visually, the M5 CS will cast a unique look at night thanks to its BMW Laserlights with a yellow tone. These L-shaped light tubes are white when used as daytime running lights, but when the low or high beams are operated switch to a yellow tone.

Inside, the M5 CS features room for four with its individual M Carbon bucket-style seats. These not only help reduce the car’s weight, but provide firm lateral support. The driver is treated to an Alcantara-swathed steering wheel, carbon fiber gearshift paddles, and of course, various CS badging all around.

As always, BMW offers individual customizations for each driver. In the M5 CS, the driver can vary the distribution of power between the front and rear wheels (it can even go pure RWD) as well as the responses of the stability control system.
