Ford Unveils the All-New 2021 F-150 Raptor

After launching the all-new, 14th generation F-150 last June, Ford has now unveiled its top-dog performance version: the all-new F-150 Raptor. The “OG” desert racing-inspired truck, the all-new F-150 Raptor fuses mechanical improvements with new connected technology.

The all-new F-150 debuts a new five-link rear suspension. It features extra-long trailing arms to better maintain axle position on rough terrain, a Panhard rod, and 24-inch coil springs—the longest in its class. This allows it to put more torque to the rear wheels for quicker off-the-line starts and faster acceleration, while also boosting comfort, handing, and traction.

As always, Fox shock absorbers are found at reach corner. This time though, they get electronic control technology by offering position-sensitive damping. The larger 3.1-inch diameter shocks—the biggest ever—resist head build up and enable it to react faster to terrain changes.

For the first time, the F-150 Raptor is available with either 35-inch or 37-inch tires – the largest factory-fitted to a production light-duty full-size pickup. These specially designed BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires offer maximum traction and handling. Wearing 35-inch tires, Raptor clears 12-inch obstacles with an approach angle of 31 degrees, maximum departure angle of 23.9 degrees and breakover angle of 22.7 degrees. The F-150 Raptor with 37-inch tires features 13.1 inches of running clearance, 33.1 degrees of approach angle, a maximum 24.9 degrees of departure angle and 24.4 degrees of breakover angle. Desert runners and rock crawlers alike will appreciate the outstanding wheel travel with 35-inch tires, reaching 14 inches at the front and 15 inches at the rear.

Powering the F-150 Raptor is a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6. Ford has yet to reveal any power figures, but it’s said to produce more than 450 horsepower (at the least). This is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with electronic locking rear differential and available front limited-slip differential. A more powerful Raptor R, likely powered by a V8, will join the line-up next year.

Underneath, it features a new three-inch equal-length exhaust system with active valves. The system takes advantage of a true pass-through muffler design that improves sound quality. Customers can configure four sound level modes: Quiet, Normal, Sport and Baja.

Inside, the F1-50 Raptor features a standard 12-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 12-inch center screen for infotainment powered by SYNC 4. The latter can be updated over-the-air. A seven-mode Terrain Management System is present and so is a 360-degree camera. Other features include Recaro seats, and a choice between aluminum or carbon fiber for the interior trim.

The 2021 F-150 Raptor will be assembled at Ford’s Dearborn Truck Plant in Dearborn, Michigan and will head to showrooms there as early as this June.
