Toyota Has the Most 5-Star Rated Vehicle at the ASEAN NCAP

The ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) held the fourth ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix 2020, recognizing brands and vehicles that are considered as the highest achievers in the field of vehicle safety across Southeast Asia.

Using the ASEAN NCAP’s safety ratings during the 2019-2020 assessment, Toyota has taken the honor of having the most 5-star rated vehicles of any brand. In addition, the Toyota Hilux, Innova, and Corolla Altis were cited for their Continuous Safety Improvement during each succeeding generation. In terms of safety performance, the Toyota Granvia (local market Hiace Super Grandia Elite) scored the best in safety assist technology.

Other winners at the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix 2020 include Honda for their City and Accord as well as the Isuzu D-Max which was also cited for its Continuous Safety Improvement.

MIROS (Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research) Director-General who is also ASEAN NCAP Secretary-General and Acting Chairman, Adjunct Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim said: “Our latest roadmap assessment has recently ended last year and thus, this is the perfect timing for us to organize the Grand Prix Awards. Over the years we saw great efforts have been put forward by vehicle manufacturers to ensure their vehicles are offered with the best safety features for the road users. As such, the awards will provide them with competitive edge against other models that do not offer such safety technologies albeit better passive safety technologies or advanced safety assist.”
