Why Ford Philippines Isn't Offering Extended Warranties on the 2021 Ranger

With the launch of the 2021 Ranger, one question surrounding its ownership popped up: will they be offering an extended warranty as seen in Thailand.

As a refresher, when Ford Thailand launched the updated Ranger (and Everest), they also introduced an unprecedented 10-year drivetrain warranty called the Ford 10-Year Driveline Care Program. It’s a comprehensive warranty covering the engine, transmission, and drive axles covering both electronic and mechanical components. The package even includes free periodic maintenance for five years, and free emergency roadside assistance for the first three.

When pressed if Ford Philippines will offer the same sort of program locally, their short answer is: no.

That being said, Ranger Raptor buyers will exclusively benefit from the Ranger Raptor Premium Care program which includes a free 5-year scheduled service maintenance package (SSP), a 5-year vehicle warranty (additional 2-year extended warranty to the standard 3-year warranty), and 5-year emergency roadside assistance (ERA).

According to Ford Philippines managing director PK Umashankar the reason behind this is down to the unique psyche of Ranger Raptor buyers. He explains that Ranger Raptor buyers aren’t swayed by cash discounts, but are after value.

“The Ranger Raptor Premium Care program is unique in that offers value in terms of overall ownership,” explains Umashankar.

True enough, despite a challenging 2020, Ford Philippines has not offered its Ranger Raptor with any sizeable cash discount. Even so, it remains a strong seller for the car brand with 1 out of every 3 Ranger Raptors sold with the International Market Group ending up on Philippine roads (2 out of 3 in ASEAN). It has also helped Ford Philippines catapult itself as the leader in the 4x4 pickup truck category.
