The 2022 Hyundai Kona N Is The 289-Horsepower SUV Subaru Won't Make

Despite its all-electric push, Hyundai hasn’t forgotten to make exciting vehicles. Case in point is its first-ever high-performance SUV: the 2022 Kona N.

Hyundai calls the Kona N a “true hot SUV” and with that pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct injection gasoline with an 8-speed wet dual clutch transmission. All in all, it makes 280 horsepower (289 horsepower with N Grin Shift) and 392 Nm of torque. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds (with Launch Control on), and can achieve a top speed of 240 km/h.

The 2022 Kona N also comes with a cornering focused electronic slip differential called N Corner Carving Differential along with 19-inch lightweight forged alloy wheels, and high-performance brakes and tires. Other enhancements include reinforcements to its body structure to minimize body roll.

Shouting that new-found performance, the 2022 Kona N has a wider track and together with its body-colored fenders give it a road-hugging look. It also gets a new front lip spoiler, wider lower air intakes, a double-wing roof spoiler, and side skirts. It also gets a newly-developed N-exclusive Sonic Blue color—a new spin on Hyundai N’s original Performance Blue with red accents.

Inside, it gets Performance Blue accents on the seats, steering wheel, shift knob, and pedals. Meanwhile, it also comes with a new 10-inch infotainment and digital cluster system with an exclusive racing heads-up display akin to a racing game.

Hyundai has revealed its plans to expand its high-performance N and N Line lineup to 18 models through 2022. The flow of new N and N Line models will include variants in each major vehicle segment, suiting the needs of all types of car enthusiasts.

    1. They did offer the Veloster N for a short time, but unlikely that they'll dabble on anything high-po again. Sayang.

    2. They won't bring it in "due to the low quality of our fuel standards". Perhaps they might bring in an "RS" version with 109 hp.
