2022 Honda Civic Will Keep Manual Gearbox Option

Honda is keeping faith in the manual transmission as they have confirmed that a three-pedal version of the all-new 11th generation Civic will be made available. This was confirmed by the carmaker, at least for the U.S. market.

Despite only 2.4 percent of all vehicles sold there rocking a stick shift, Honda continues to believe that there are purists who would still want a 6-speed manual in their Civic. It will not be made available anymore on the Civic sedan though, but rather on the five-door Civic hatchback.

Honda has also confirmed that the hot version of the Civic—the Civic Si and the high-performance Civic Type R will both continue to be manual-only, despite some of its competitors moving to dual clutch automatics or traditional automatics instead.

The “standard” 2022 Honda Civic is launching in the U.S. this year, and is also expected in ASEAN in the coming months. Next year will see the unveil of the all-new Civic Type R which shifts its production from the U.K. to the U.S. following the closure of Honda’s assembly plant there.
