The Ford Ranger Raptor Dons Racing Stripes For 2021

The race-inspired updates for the Ranger Raptor first launched in the Australian and New Zealand markets has now gone global.

Down under, Ford introduced the Ranger Raptor X, a new special edition of its performance truck with styling inspired by rally raid competition. At the time, we mentioned that there’s a strong possibility of it going global, and that has happened with Europe’s very own Ranger Raptor Special Edition.

The name may have changed, but the treatment is more or less the same. It takes a Ranger Raptor and adds twin matte black racing stripes with red contrast lines to the hood, roof, lower body sides, rear wings, and tailgate.

This is then complemented by the front tow hooks now colored red, while the wheel arches, front and rear bumpers, door handles, and F-O-R-D grille now finished in matte black.

If you have an eye for detail, the only change is the design of the sports bar. Ford Australia opted for a full-length tubular black steel sports bar ala the Ranger FX4 MAX, while in Europe, they went for a decidedly sleeker option, aping the Ranger Wildtrak’s instead.

Inside, the Euro Ranger Raptor Special Edition does have a leg up against its Australian competition with a special Raceway Gray instrument panel along with high-grain leather seats. It does keep the same red stitching on the steering wheel, instrument panel, and door trim.

Other than these aesthetic changes, the Ranger Raptor Special Edition continues on mechanically unchanged. It continues to be powered by a bi-turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 213 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque mated to a 10-speed automatic; and it has the same performance-tuned suspension system (with rear coil springs) and FOX shock absorbers with Position Sensitive Damping.

The Ranger Raptor Special Edition reaches showrooms in Europe by October this year.

With two major markets now sporting a sportified version of the Ranger Raptor, it’s only a matter of time when it’ll arrive to the ASEAN market, including the Philippines. The question left is what name will this racy Ranger Raptor take on locally?
