Lexus Ushers In A New Era With All-New 2022 Lexus NX


Ushering in a new era for Lexus, the all-new 2022 Lexus NX compact SUV arrives embracing electrification, performance, and design.

At the heart of the second-generation Lexus NX is a family of new engines. On the NX 250 (A25A-FKS) is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Mated to an 8-speed automatic, this model is available in both front and all-wheel drive configurations. 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) takes 8.2 (FWD) to 8.6 (AWD) seconds.

Moving up, there’s the NX 350 (T24A-FTS) which uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter with 275 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. Also mated to an 8-speed automatic, it enables a 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) sprint in just 6.8 seconds, half a second quicker than the previous model. Additionally, the electronically controlled full-time AWD constantly varies the front/rear driving force distribution from 75:25 to 50:50 (depending on situation), and uses unique technology to achieve both an optimal contact patch and linear steering feel.



The NX 350h (A25A-FKS + THS II) is the gasoline-electric hybrid of the line-up. It pairs a direct-injected 2.5-liter gasoline engine with two high-torque electric motors. Instead of transfer gears and a driveshaft to the rear wheels, the AWD system employs a second, independent electric motor to drive the rear wheels when it detects it is needed to help maintain optimal traction. And showcasing Lexus’s superiority in the hybrid game, it’s faster by 1.5 seconds from 0 to 60 mph (7.2 seconds) while also bumping up its fuel economy to 15.3 km/L—2.55 km/L better than the current model.

Finally, there’s the NX 450h+ (A25-FXS + THS II Plug-In), the first-ever Lexus Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). This version delivers up to 58 kilometers (36 miles) of pure electric driving thanks to a high-capacity lithium-ion battery, while providing the fastest 0 to 60 mph of just 6 seconds flat.

From the refined spindle grille to the new full-width blade taillamps and “LEXUS” rear badging, the all-new 2022 Lexus NX emits a powerful message to those approaching the luxury crossover. At the front, the updated grille pattern and frame create a more integrated feel. Made up of tall U-shaped blocks, the spindle grille is designed for a three-dimensional effect and creates a sense of depth while expressing a strong impression. Framed on top by the L-shaped daytime running lights (DRL), the optional three-projector headlamps create balance with a more subdued impression.



In the rear, the Lexus logo has been redesigned to create an advanced and modern expression. The use of the L emblem has been replaced by a new, unified LEXUS logo located at the center of the vehicle. A full-width blade rear combination lamp (similar to the Lexus UX and IS). and an L-shaped lamp on the rear fender are separated to make the expression unique to the NX. The light bar lamps are constantly illuminated at night to function as a taillight and illuminate the rear brand signature.

Inside, the NX’s driver-centered cockpit has been meticulously redesigned. The 7-inch Multi Instrument Display (MID), and 10-inch Head Up Display (HUD), both NX firsts, are designed to convey vehicle information, alerts and updates, within the driver’s line of sight. The MID’s single meter layout is made more visible by a high-definition screen.

In the center stack, the standard 9.8-inch touchscreen puts an array of multimedia features within easy reach. The optional 14-inch touch screen, a first for the NX as well, delivers an immersive multimedia experience. Dial controls remain for frequently used functions, like climate control and media volume. Comfort features, such as heated seat selection, are now more readily accessible. All enhancements combine to create a more user-friendly, digital in-vehicle experience.



Speaking about the infotainment system, the all-new NX debuts a newly developed Lexus Interface multimedia system. Developed in North America, It promises user interaction through sight, touch and voice, while balancing accessibility needs. It also incorporates a new virtual assistant function. The system enables a voice-first approach allowing front seat occupants an expanded and interactive experience to access navigation, media, phone and certain vehicle settings such as climate control and window opening/closing. The system also offers OTA (Over-The-Air updates) too.

For 2022, the Lexus NX also features standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Guests can charge and stream wirelessly with the new optional wireless charger which can be stowed away to maximize storage.

Drivers can also switch between various nature-inspired Thematic Ambient Illumination, an optional feature that bathes the NX interior in a choice of 14 themes and 64 colors. Each has been carefully selected to express ephemeral emotions and evoke nature-inspired feelings, with themes including Rain Forest, Waterfall, and Sunset.



For all of its technological advancements, the 2022 Lexus NX does not shy away from traditional Lexus traits. For example, sound insulation has been improved by up to 15 percent, while thanks to a brand-new platform, rear seat comfort, particularly head clearance and hip point and comfort has been improved.

In a first for the NX, the panoramic moonroof gives both the front and rear passengers the ability to see the sky with just the push of a button. Its smooth gliding opening and closing motion provides easy stargazing or additional airflow on a sunny day.

The all-new 2022 NX will start production in the third quarter of 2021.
