Vehicle Importers See 8 Percent Increase In May 2021 Sales

The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc. (AVID) registered an 8 percent increase in month-on-month sales. Last May, they sold 4,864 units—an increase over April 2021’s 4,496 units.

According to AVID, the sales hike can be attributed to the gradual re-opening of the economy as well as the less restrictive quarantine measures.

Month-on-month, Passenger Car (PC) sales are down 5 percent in May compared to April. A total of 1,029 units were moved versus 1,087 units in April. However, Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) sales shot up 22 percent from 3,116 units in April to 3,814 units in May.

Suzuki led all in PC segment sales, moving 601 units in May. They’re followed by Hyundai in second place with 372 units. In the LCV segment, Ford took the top spot with 1,669 units sold followed by Suzuki in second with 1,201 units.

AVID’s May results echo the results released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines or CAMPI a few days ago.

For the first five months of 2021, vehicle importers recorded a 59 percent surge compared to the same period in 2020. They have sold a total of 25,217 units so far this year, compared to 15,811 units last year.
