Toyota Motor PH Is Producing More Vios And Innova Right Now

Despite the depressed economy and looming semi-conductor shortage affecting the production of some of its vehicles, Toyota Motor Philippines’ steady climb continues. In fact, its cumulative first-half 2021 sales are now steadily returning to pre-COVID-19 levels, while its production figures have now surpassed even pre-COVID-19 levels.

In the first six months of 2021, the country’s biggest carmaker managed to move 63,758—a sizeable increase compared to 2020’s COVID-19 stricken number of 35,648. With 11,242 vehicles sold in June, Toyota is just a month’s worth of sales behind their pre-COVID-19 figure of 73,454 recorded in 2019. In fact, their 2021 figure surpasses their 2015 figure of 57,717 units.

Globally, Toyota is on the same trajectory selling 5.005 million units in the first half; that’s up 32.7 percent compared to 2020 and 4.5 percent compared to 2019. As always, their sales were driven by high demand for their Highlander, Venza, and Camry.

In terms of production, Toyota’s Sta. Rosa Laguna assembly plant, where the Vios and Innova are made for the Philippine market, tallied 25,179 units produced in the first half of 2021. This figure is even higher than 2019’s 24,013 units and 2018’s 22,243 units. In June alone, 4,744 units were produced. This represents Toyota’s bullish attitude sales-wise heading into the second half of 2021.

Worldwide, Toyota produced 4.517 million units—36.3 percent up from 2020, but down 2.7 percent compared to 2019.

Meanwhile, the ratio of electrified vehicles in global sales increased from approximately 21 percent in the first half of 2020 to approximately 26 percent in the first half of 2021. This increase was driven primarily by increases in North America, Europe, and China.
