Toyota Suspends Production At Alphard, Land Cruiser Plants Due To Parts Shortage

Toyota may have dodged the worst of the global semiconductor shortage, but production at three of their manufacturing plants in Japan have been affected by an unforeseen circumstance: a spike in COVID-19 cases at one of its suppliers in Southeast Asia.

Thanks to a parts shortage, Toyota has announced a temporary stoppage to production at its Fujimatsu Plant. The suspension will last five days and will affect the production of its MPVs, most notably the Alphard. Other models affected are the Vellfire, Noah, Voxy, and Esquire.

Meanwhile, its Tahara Plant will see suspension of three days, and this will affect production of its Lexus LS, IS, RC, RC F, and NX models. Ditto its Yoshiwara Plant which will have two days of stoppage affecting the assembly of the all-new Land Cruiser 300, LX as well as the Land Cruiser 70.

Toyota’s production woes have also hit Thailand where production at its Ban Pho, Samrong, and Gateway Plants have all been suspended. This affects the production of the Corolla and Hilux.

No word if these stoppages will affect the supply of vehicles for Toyota Motor Philippines, but it is likely that anticipated all-new models such as the Land Cruiser 300 and the Lexus NX will be affected in the short term.
