The Honda NSX Is Ready To Say Goodbye With The Limited Run Type S

After ending the production of the current Civic Type R, Honda is also ready to say goodbye to its second-generation NSX supercar by releasing its ultimate form—the NSX Type S.

Set for a limited production run of 350 units—30 units in Japan and 320 units outside of Japan, the NSX Type S is set to be introduced by the end of August (official launching is on August 12). This will be the first time the NSX Type S will be made available outside of Japan.

Honda hasn’t given exact details as to the performance and aesthetic enhancements that the NSX Type S would have but it’s very likely that this version will be pushing out 600 horsepower thanks to tweaks either to its twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 or its three-electric motor system, or both.

It’s also very likely that the NSX Type S will gain a sportier suspension setup along with a more aggressive exhaust and revised style.

The first-generation NSX, which went on sale in 1990, realized a significant weight reduction by adopting an all-aluminum monocoque body, a world’s first for mass-production vehicles. As the “New Sports eXperience,” it brought together state-of-the-art technologies of the time and achieved both excellent dynamic performance and ease of driving at a high level.

While holding firm to the concept of “human-centered supercar” inherited from the first-generation NSX and adopting Honda’s advanced electrification technologies, the second-generation NSX was developed and introduced in 2016 to provide more customers with the “joy of driving” generated by a sense of oneness between the driver and vehicle. Moreover, NSX has been supplied globally from the Performance Manufacturing Center in the U.S., which realized harmony between the craftmanship of skilled engineers and innovative advanced production technologies.

While the current NSX is ready to say goodbye, Honda hasn’t ruled out making another high-performance sportscar in the future.
