The Toyota Yaris Makes For One Environmentally-Friendly And Cute Delivery Vehicle

Toyota is proving just how versatile their all-new Yaris really is. The global sub-compact hatchback hasn’t just claimed the European Car of the Year, but it also spawned the high-performance GR Yaris. Now, in a rather surprising twist, Toyota has converted it into, get this, a delivery vehicle.

Developed by Toyota Custom, the Yaris Ecovan, as the model’s officially called, may look like a regular five-door hatchback from the outside. However, inside, it’s been changed from the B-pillar backward. The rear seats have been removed, and in its place is a wooden floor with a rubber mat. A separator has been installed between the front seats as well. The floor itself contains rings where straps can be affixed. The conversion enables the Yaris to be classified as a N1 Van.

For those who’re curious, that’s the same classification as the reborn Suzuki Jimny which was converted to a commercial vehicle to skirt Europe’s increasingly stringent emissions standards. Compared to the off-roader, the load compartment of the Yaris Ecovan is smaller—720 liters to 863 liters. But, in a twist, the Toyota can load way more: 430 kilograms versus just 150 kilograms.

The available cargo volume reaches a maximum length of 1,242.8 mm between the divider and the end of the boot. The minimum width is 866.8 mm, and the height, from floor to ceiling, is 694.8 mm. The height available at the loading mouth is 670.2 mm.

Also, unlike the Jimny, the Yaris Ecovan doesn’t skirt any emissions-related rules. It is powered by a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder paired with a small electric motor good for a combined 116 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque.

It also comes with Toyota Safety Sense as standard as well as climate control, rain-sensing wipers, and even a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For now, Toyota is selling the Yaris Ecovan in Spain, but rest assured it will offer it in other European markets as well.
