Nissan's Intelligent Factory Will Be Building Their Next-Generation Cars

Nissan has unveiled what it calls its next-generation manufacturing initiative: the Nissan Intelligent Factory.

Since its foundation, Nissan has honed its ability to manufacture vehicles through high quality and highly efficient production processes. However, the business environment surrounding manufacturing is undergoing major changes. In Japan, Nissan thinks that there is a need to break away from conventional labor-intensive manufacturing to cope with an aging society and serious labor shortage.

Unforeseen situations, such as climate change and pandemics, also need to be managed. At the same time, industry trends in electrification, vehicle intelligence, and connected technologies are making vehicle structure and functionality more advanced and complex.

Introduced at its Tochigi Plant, the Nissan Intelligent Factory will use more robots to manufacture the company’s next-generation vehicles while also creating an environment where people can work more comfortably. It also realizes a zero-emissions production system.

The system will roll out across Nissan’s global production footprint as they strive to become a carbon neutral carmaker by 2050.

The first product to use the Nissan Intelligent Factory initiative is the all-electric Nissan Ariya SUV.
