Toyota Just Launched The 2022 Yaris GR Sport

If you weren’t lucky enough to be one of the first batch of GR Yaris buyers, well you’re in luck. Sort of. Because Toyota just decided to launch the Yaris GR Sport.

The thing is, if you’re thinking of the homologated version of Toyota’s World Rally car, think again. In this case, the position of the “GR” moniker is important because unlike the GR Yaris, the Yaris GR Sport is basically a tarted-up ASEAN Yaris (aka the Vios hatchback). Yeah, it’s confusing.

Launched for the Indonesian market (for now), the Yaris GR Sport gains the usual trappings of a GR Sport model including spoilers for both the front and rear bumpers, side skirts, a special fog lamp cover, and a more prominent rear wing. Of course, it’s not complete without tons of Gazoo Racing badges.

Inside, the Gazoo Racing badge is present on the steering wheel, the head rests, push-button start-stop, and even the opening animation of the infotainment system. Like the Vios GR Sport, it also gains a sleeker-looking instrument cluster.

Despite all the changes, the Yaris GR Sport is mechanically the same as the regular Yaris. For that, it gets a 1.5-liter Dual VVT-i engine with 107 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. It is, available though, in both manual (5-speed) and CVT flavors.

The Yaris GR Sport’s price ranges from 269,700,000 to 284,900,000 Rupiah (P 943,900 to P 997,110) or a P 74,000 to 94,000 premium over the non-GR Sport variant. Currently, it is not known if the Yaris GR Sport will be offered outside of the Indonesian market.
