Honda Says All-New 2023 Civic Type R Will Be Best Performing Ever

Simultaneous with its European test which includes a trip to the Nürburgring, Honda has once again shown the world the development process of the newest Civic Type R.

The Japanese carmaker, whose engine recently propelled Max Verstappen to his first Formula 1 championship, isn’t mincing words. They’re calling it the “best-performing Honda Civic Type R ever.”

Work continues on the hot hatch; this time around the 5.8-kilometer Suzuka Circuit. Renowned for its high-speed chicanes and challenging corners, it has the distinctive ‘figure eight’ layout that includes a long 1.2-kilometer back straight, which passes over an earlier section of the circuit.

Widely regarded as a highlight of the Formula 1 calendar, Suzuka has been an important testbed for developing performance Honda vehicles and engines since 1962.

Honda hasn’t revealed any mechanical details about the newest Civic Type R, but expectations are that it will continue on with its 2.0-liter VTEC turbo tweaked to push more than the current 306 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The carmaker is expected to focus on improving its overall handling and dynamics.

The all-new Civic Type R will be introduced in 2022 for the 2023 model year.
