Carmakers Increase Prices To Start 2022

Greeting would-be car buyers this 2022 is a slew of price adjustments from major car manufacturers in the country. Carmakers such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Ford, and Nissan have all increased their prices to start the new year. Thankfully, these increases are modest—from as little as P 5,000 to as much as P 80,000.

You can check out our Price Guide here, or for handy guide on what’s new, check out the changes in the next few paragraphs.

With the entire run of Raptor X variants selling out, Ford has increased the price of its Ranger Raptor to P 2,048,000. This is the first time the Baja-inspired pickup truck has breached the P 2-million mark since it stayed at its P 1,998,000 price for quite some time. Aside from the Raptor, the Mustang 2.3 EcoBoost has also seen a price increase to P 2,948,000 from P 2,858,000. The V8-powered ‘Stangs remain at the same price.

Next up, we have Honda. The sole variant of the Accord, the EL Turbo is now at P 2,350,000 from P 2,308,000. The carmaker has opted to drop one variant of its CR-V—the entry-level V diesel. This leaves the CR-V line-up with just three variants—the CR-V 2.0 S 5-seater, CR-V S Diesel 7-seater, and the CR-V SX Diesel 7-Seater. The S Diesel and SX Diesel are both equipped with Honda SENSING. Thankfully, pricing for the CR-Vs haven’t changed.

Kia, which managed to maintain its position as the 10th best-selling car brand in the country has tweaked the prices of its China-sourced Soluto and Stonic models. The Soluto now starts at P 740,000 (from P 720,000) going up to P 830,000 (from P 810,000). On the other hand, the Stonic now starts at P 765,000 (from P 735,000) to P 955,000 (from P 925,000).

Over at Mitsubishi, the carmaker is starting to trim the variants of its Xpander and Strada models with the GLX Plus models now disappearing in its latest price list. These variants were replaced instead by the stylish new Black Series editions. The Mirage hatchback also gets a factory-installed touchscreen infotainment system for an additional P 7,000 (P 772,000).

The same thing is happening at Nissan. Although there are no changes in price to its line-up, in January, the carmaker bided goodbye to its long-serving Sylphy compact sedan and X-Trail compact SUV. This is a sign that their respective replacements might be on the way.

At Suzuki, most of the line-up’s pricing has been retained except for the Jimny where prices have jumped by around P 75,000. The two-door 4x4 SUV, sourced from India, now starts at P 1,170,000 and goes up to P 1,285,000.

Over at Toyota, several of its CBU models imported from Thailand and Japan have changed prices. These include the Corolla Cross, FJ Cruiser, GR Yaris, Hiace (except for the Cargo and Commuter), Land Cruiser 300, and surprisingly, the RAV4 before its hybrid switch. Thankfully, their best-selling models like the Vios, Fortuner, Innova, and Wigo have managed to stay put price-wise.

  1. What is causing these price increases? Taxes? Inflation? Or are car companies simply taking advantage of their customers?

    1. Each carmaker would have their own reason for increasing prices...it could be the factors that you mentioned. It could also be exchange rates--these car manufacturers often hedge their foreign exchange versus yen or USD...it might have affected them too.

  2. The one from Suzuki Jimny felt scummy, if not downright atrocious. Read here:

First, they started good with the low-end MT Jimny starting at PHP 975k (if I can remember, from its new-gen official launch.) Then, as the years go by they jacked up prices of several Suzuki vehicles slowly (including Jimny) stating price increase from their car parts suppliers. Then, Jimny units for PH shifted to India (Gurgaon) plant with zero adjustments to its pricing range (compared to units made in Japan.)

And now, another (silent) price increase without any reason. (Maybe, supply chip shortages? But there's zero official response from them.)

    1. Suzuki Phils. is simply (or blatantly?) taking advantage of the Jimny's popularity.
