Geely is ready to shake up the sub-compact sedan segment with the launch of the 2022 Emgrand. Hoping to repeat the success of the Coolray in the sub-compact SUV segment, the Emgrand brings quality, technology, and contemporary aesthetics to the Philippines’s largest and most competitive market segment by volume.
As China’s best-selling sedan for nine years, the Emgrand is the product of continuous improvement for Geely. The fourth-generation model now rides on the brand’s BMA platform and is built at the brand’s new 5G Connected Factory. Overall, it has a class-above body size measuring 4,638 mm in length and 1,822 mm in width. It also has an ultra-low 0.27 co-efficient of drag and center of gravity.
Outside, the Emgrand takes on the new Energy Pulse grille design, Geely’s newest design language reserved for its line of sedans. This is then flanked by full LED headlights with daytime running lights. Over to the side, it wears 17-inch alloy wheels with 205/50R17 tires, while at the back, full-width rhythmic LED taillights give it a sense of visual width and drama, especially at night. Other exterior features include power folding and heated side view mirrors and a sunroof.
The use of the Coolray’s platform has enabled Geely to give the Emgrand class-above space as well. The horizontal, wide cockpit design gives a minimalist look and feel, while freeing up additional legroom for those seated in front. The NVH is also impressive with in-vehicle noise registering at 37 decibels making it quieter than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Passengers aboard the Emgrand are also treated to class-leading features such as smart keyless entry with push button engine start, leatherette/suede combination seats with a 6-way power adjustment for the driver, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 8-inch infotainment screen, and an electronic control for the air conditioner with refresh and dry mode with rear vents and a CN95 filter.
Powering the Emgrand is Geely’s newest 1.5-liter normally-aspirated 4-cylinder engine. Equipped with dual continuous variable valve timing, it’s tuned to deliver improved fuel efficiency. For the Philippine market, it makes 102 horsepower and 142 Nm of torque on 91 RON octane fuel. This is then mated to a CVT with eight virtual gears and cruise control. On the other hand, four-wheel disc brakes and the use of Bosch’s latest 9.3 ESP system also helps it achieve a 100 km/h to zero km/h braking distance in just 36 meters.
Aside from the aforementioned electronic stability program, the Emgrand also comes with 6 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitoring, speed-sending door locks, and reverse parking sensors with rear camera.
The 2022 Emgrand comes in six colors: Proud Teal, Dark Blue, Gold, Gray, Red, and White and in two variants with the Emgrand Premium priced at P 908,000, and the Emgrand Comfort priced at P 798,000. The pricing also comes with a free 1-year PMS. And until May 31, the Emgrand comes with a P 50,000 discount voucher. An entry-level Emgrand S will join the line-up in the coming months.

ReplyDeleteEnd of d road for mg5, soluto n g4
ReplyDeleteMG5 Core is still cheaper..Geely still uses a 39 year old engine by Mitsubishi!
DeleteMirage G4 is still selling well as its fuel efficient and its a Mitsubishi.
Maganda nga sales ng G4 pero basura ang mismong produkto. Horrendous NVH, rattles everywhere, extremely slow acceleration, sloppy handling, ancient interior & exterior. MG5 hindi consistent build quality.
DeleteI wouldn't even mind if that's a 100 year old engine by Mitsubishi. They have refined this engine for so long that it's reliability is near bullet proof. We keep talking about these chinese cars need to prove their engine reliability, and here comes a proven, reliable and tested engine, yet we still complain because its 'dated'. Lmao.
DeleteWithout that useless sunroof the price could've even be lowered. Prettier, bigger and fully loaded at cheaper price I can't see how this can't become the top seller in this segment.
ReplyDeleteDoes a D-CVVT (Dual Continuos Variable-Valve Timing System) exists 39 years ago in Mitsubishi?..
ReplyDeleteQuite impressive for its price. I'm highly doubtful of the NVH claims, considering it's the size of a Corolla Altis but weight of a Vios, surely there has to be a compromise in insulation and materials for that to happen. Engine also at the pathetic end of the class. Interior looks pleasant though. Overall, it seems like it didn't do to the subcompact sedan segment what the Coolray did to the subcompact crossover segment. Waiting for the full in-depth review of this

DeleteYou're welcome.
City to Emgrand: I have 120hp and 145 Nm of torque. Plus, I am already tried and tested.
ReplyDeleteWhy is there an S variant on the spec sheet but no price? Was that supposed to be excluded?
ReplyDeleteThe entry-level S will arrive in the coming months. As for the pricing, they'll announce it closer to launch.
