Subaru Has Earned More Top Safety Pick Awards Than Any Other Carmaker

Subaru earns six more Top Safety Picks awards from the U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) underlying the brand’s continued safety-conscious approach to vehicle design and engineering.

Their four additional Top Safety Pick+ (two were ranked Top Safety Pick) this year means they’ve received more Top Safety Pick+ awards than any other car brand since 2013, the first year of the award.

For the 2022 model year, the following Subaru vehicles were bestowed with Top Safety Pick+ honors:
  • Subaru Evoltis – Top Safety Pick for 5 consecutive years
  • Subaru Outback – Top Safety Pick for 14 consecutive years
  • Subaru Legacy – Top Safety Pick for 17 consecutive years
  • Subaru XV Hybrid – Top Safety Pick+ for 4 consecutive years
Meanwhile, the Subaru XV and Impreza both received Top Safety Pick honors. The Subaru XV has been a Top Safety Pick for 11 consecutive years, while the Impreza has been on the list for 15 consecutive years.

To earn a 2022 Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ award, vehicles must receive ‘Good’ ratings in each of IIHS’s six crashworthiness evaluations; ‘Good’ or ‘Acceptable’ headlight ratings, and available front crash prevention that achieves “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.

The ‘Plus’ is awarded to models that come exclusively with ‘Good’ or ‘Acceptable’ headlights.

Subaru’s impressive performance at the IIHS test continues its impressive haul of safety-related accolades. The Outback has been deemed the safest car in 2021 by the Euro NCAP as well.
