Volvo Cars PH To Introduce New Hybrid Variants In 2022

Volvo Cars Philippines has confirmed that they will be bringing in more hybrid-powered variants this 2022.

Carrying the “B6” model designation on the S90, XC60, and XC90, it will slot below the T8, Volvo’s range of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). The B6 models pairs a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. All in all, it produces a healthy 300 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. Not only does the Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) motor provide additional kick, it helps bring down fuel consumption to 10.10 km/L as per Volvo estimates.

This welcome news comes as Volvo Cars itself secured an A-score by CDP, a non-profit organization that rates companies based on their emissions and climate risk. This places Volvo Cars in the highest tier of CDP’s climate change list, together with only a smaller number of companies.

More than 13,000 companies participated by disclosing data on their environmental impacts, risks, and opportunities, and Volvo Cars’ high score reflects its position as a leader in environmental ambition and climate action.

Volvo Cars aims to become a fully electric car maker by 2030 and plans to roll out a whole new family of pure electric cars in coming years, one of the auto industry’s most ambitious electrification plans. This is part of its ambition to become a climate-neutral company by 2040, as it works to consistently cut carbon emissions across its business.

The company seeks to reduce the lifecycle carbon footprint per average car by 40 percent between 2018 and 2025, including reducing carbon emissions in its supply chain by 25 percent by 2025.
