2023 BMW X7 Debuts New Family Look, Standard Hybrid System

The X7, BMW’s flagship SUV receives a significant amount of refinement upgrades for 2023, including a more visually impressive front-end design and expanded levels of equipment. Moreover, the entire engine line is now electrified thanks to a 48-volt mild hybrid system.

The 2023 BMW X7’s front-end design focuses visually on the iconic BMW double kidney grille which can be illuminated as an option. The headlamps have been split with a horizontal unit now placed further down the bumper, and the top element serving as the daytime running lights and turn signal indicators. At each corner are available 23-inch alloy wheels, while at the back a chrome strip now visually joins the taillights. The taillights themselves get new graphics. Design Pure Excellence is now the standard trim, while a sportier M (M60i xDrive) also available.

Inside, the X7 gets a massive curved display which combines both the 12.3-inch driver’s display and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen. This necessitated a redesign of the dashboard which now come with slim air vents and ambient interior lighting. The center console has also been changed with a new gear selector design. Three rows of seats are standard, with the second row accommodating three passengers as standard, but individual seats are available as an option. Seat covering can be optioned in Merino leather or even a new vegan-friendly Senafin trim.

In terms of features, the X7 focuses on passenger well-being and with that comes with a four-zone climate control, a panoramic glass sunroof, and an optional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround sound system.

Headlining the X7’s powertrain advancements is the standard 48-volt mild hybrid system. This form of electrification consists of a crankshaft-mounted starter generator integrated into the transmission and contributes an extra 12 horsepower of output and an extra 200 Nm. All of the engines partner with an 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters on the steering wheel and a “Sprint” function.

The 4.4-liter V8 (X7 M60i xDrive) makes 530 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, there are two six-cylinder engines available as well. The X7 xDrive40i makes 380 horsepower and 540 Nm of torque, while the X7 xDrive40d has 352 horsepower and 720 Nm of torque.

All the chassis systems have been retuned for the 2023 BMW X7 giving it a wider spectrum between sporty handling and driving comfort.

Comfort and safety in the new BMW X7 are further enhanced by a significantly expanded selection of automated driving and parking systems. New features include the extended range of functions offered by the front-collision warning system, which now also reduces the danger of a collision with cyclists, pedestrians or oncoming vehicles when turning off.

The 2023 X7 will be produced at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in the US. The worldwide market launch for the new BMW X7 will get underway in August 2022.

  1. Has to be one of the ugliest front face from a new car. Whoever designed that front should be sacked immediately.
