2023 Hyundai Palisade Gets Meaner Face, More Luxury Features

Hyundai’s flagship SUV, the Palisade receives significant enhancements for 2023. The Korean automaker’s rival to the likes of the Mazda CX-9 and Ford Explorer receives not just refreshed aesthetics, but added convenience features as well.

Outside, the 2023 Palisade is characterized by its wider signature Cascading Grille. Now featuring parametric shield design elements, it pushes the forward lighting to the edges. A new multi-piece LED DRL frames the grille, while at the sides, are new 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the Palisade now features wing-out headrests for the second row, while seat heating is now available across all three rows (ventilated seating is available for the first two rows). The dashboard has also been redesigned for a more voluminous appearance with detailing such as slim, horizontal air vents. The driver also benefits from the luxury brand Genesis’s Ergo motion seat. Using seven air cells inside the seats, it’s designed to reduce fatigue during long drives.

In terms of convenience features, the refreshed Palisade now has an upgraded wireless charger with increased wattage (15 watts from the previous 5 watts), USB Type C charging ports, and the latest version of Hyundai Digital Key which enables owners to use compatible smart phones and devices to act as the vehicle’s key. Moreover, a digital rear-view mirror provides an unobstructed view even when fully-loaded with passengers.

Speaking of passengers, eight seats are standard with a one-touch second row seat and a power folding/unfolding and reclining third row seat. Second row Captain’s Seats is also an available option.

Powertrain options for the 2023 Palisade remain unchanged. For North America, that means a 3.8-liter Atkinson-cycle V6 engine with 291 horsepower and 355 Nm of torque. Power is routed through an 8-speed automatic in both front- or all-wheel drive configurations. For all-wheel drive variants, a new Tow Mode is added to hold lower gears longer and reduce the frequency of shifting response.

Finally, Hyundai has upgraded the safety equipment with rear side-impact airbags, for a total of 9 airbags, on top of the advanced driver assist system. The system includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assist, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, Lane Following Assist, Highway Driving Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.
