MIAS 2022: Chery Auto PH Goes Upmarket With 2022 Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV

Chery Auto Philippines surprised everyone by launching their very own Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in the form of the all-new Tiggo 8 Pro. The 7-seater mid-sized SUV sits top the Chery Auto range not just because of its luxurious styling and features, but because of its powerful, yet fuel-sipping powertrain.

Bolstering the Chinese brand’s tech-boosted upmarket push, the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV pairs a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder with two powerful electric motor and a 19.27-kWh lithium-ion battery. The combustion engine itself makes 155 horsepower, while the electric motors placed at the front and back make 34 horsepower and 54 horsepower, respectively. Coupled with a unique hybrid transmission gearbox, it consumes just 1 liter of fuel every 100 kilometers of driving, while 0 to 100 km/h is pegged at 5 seconds. If the battery is topped up, it can drive up to 90 kilometers in pure electric mode, with charging time being as short as three hours.

For those who prefer something more conventional, the Tiggo 8 Pro is also available with a 1.6-liter turbocharged direct-injected gasoline engine. This Euro 5 compliant powerplant develops 183 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 275 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. This is then mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic.

Asserting a commanding presence on the road, the Tiggo 8 Pro bears a strong familial resemblance to the Tiggo 7 Pro. Thus, it gets a European-inspired diamond grille and slim LED headlights. The fog lights and DRLs are also lit by LEDs as well. More upmarket styling touches come from distinctive character lines, large 18-inch alloy wheels with comfort-oriented 235/55R18 tires, and a prominent silver-chrome trim on the lower portion of the doors. The eye-catching silver-chrome door strip matches the similar treatment on the upper window line trim as well as that on the roof rails. The rear is consistent with the luxury theme, with the LED taillamps, integrated silver-chrome-tipped dual tailpipes, and a rear spoiler that seamlessly extends from the roof.

Inside, the all-new Tiggo 8 Pro features a two-tone black/brown cabin with a soft-touch dashboard and diamond stitching on the seats. The 12.3-inch touchscreen features Apple CarPlay and supports wireless charging. It also has eight speakers as standard and three USB ports. The driver gets a fully-digital 7-inch instrument cluster. Other convenience features include 6-way power adjustable front seats, a programmable multi-color ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a digital touch panel for the climate control system, and a power tailgate.

The Tiggo 8 Pro also debuts Chery Auto’s very own driver assist system giving their flagship SUV 11 functions: Blind Spot Detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Door Opening Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Integrated Cruise Assist, Intelligent High-Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Speed Limit Sign Recognition. This is on top of the usual ABS with EBD, stability control, tire pressure monitoring, proximity sensors, and a reverse camera.

“We are excited to unveil our brilliant, new flagship in the all-new Chery Tiggo 8 Pro. With its luxurious styling and features, we expect it to surprise and delight Filipinos longing for the design and technology found in high-end luxury SUVs, but at a much more affordable price point,” says Chery Auto Philippines/UAAGI President Erroll DueƱas.

The all-new Chery Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV have retail prices of P 1,645,000 and P 2,400,000, respectively.

Both come with the industry-leading Chery Premium Preserv package that consists of a 10-year/1-million-kilometer engine warranty, a five-year/150,000-km general vehicle warranty, free three years preventive maintenance service (PMS), and free three years roadside assistance.

  1. Even though i'm not into Chinese cars (though I rode one before) this even shocked me personally, reading the announcement and spec sheet.

This is Chery's impressive attempt to score ace in this car segment.

  2. With that engine and electric motor combination, for a Chinese car I do not know if Uly just had a typo with the car's PS and max NM or it's just darn impressive. For a Chinese car. And coming from a non-Chinese car user.

Gives the Japanese and the Koreans a run for their money.

  3. Very impressive of Chery Ph to still offer the 10-year/1,000,000km engine warranty for a PHEV.
For comparison, if I remember correctly, Toyota Ph offers a 5-year warranty for its hybrid vehicles.

  5. Just like MG and other Chinese car brands, Chery will not stop until it beats out Geely in our country. The leveling-up is non-stop. Very good for Filipino car buyers :)
