MIAS 2022: Subaru Forester Is Now Most Advanced Compact SUV Around

Subaru has now officially started retail sales of the refreshed 2022 Forester after its quiet debut at local showrooms last month. Launched at the Manila International Auto Show (check out our review), the best-selling compact SUV comes equipped with even more safety features.

The 2022 Forester now has Subaru’s latest and most sophisticated EyeSight driver assist system to date. EyeSight 4.0 now covers even more traffic scenarios such as intersections thanks to its stereo cameras with double the coverage. With this, the Forester is now able to detect obstacles not just at its own lane, but at neighboring lanes as well. It also achieves Level 2 autonomous driving.

This has helped the Forester unlock more features: Autonomous Emergency Steering, Lane Centering Function, and Lane Departure Prevention. Moreover, the Pre-Collision Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control functions have been improved.

Further increasing safety, the Forester now comes with a Driver Monitoring System. Using an infrared camera and facial recognition technology, it detects if a driver is distracted or drowsy. It also remembers the unique settings of up to five drivers for their seat and door mirror positions to even the climate control settings. It automatically adjusts them for each upon facial recognition. The system also unlocks gesture controls for the climate control system as well.

Completing the safety package, the 2022 Forester also has the Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection System (SRVD) as well as Reverse Automatic Braking (RAB), and High Beam Assist (HBA).

The Forester packs the same powertrain as before—a 2.0-liter normally-aspirated flat-4 engine with 156 horsepower and 196 Nm of torque. It does, however, have an improved suspension setup as well as a beefed-up X-Mode system. The X-Mode now has Auto Restore which switches to standby when vehicle speeds exceed 40 km/h. It subsequently comes back on when the speed drops below 35 km/h.

The 2022 Forester comes in three new colors, namely Brilliant Bronze Metallic, Autumn Green Metallic and Cascade Green Silica, in addition to perennial favorites such as Crystal Black Silica, Horizon Blue Pearl, Magnetite Gray Metallic, Ice Silver Metallic, Crystal White Pearl, and Crimson Red Pearl.

The 2022 Subaru Forester 2.0i-S EyeSight is priced at P 2,068,000.

  1. Most advanced except for the ancient engine.

  2. Kudos to Subaru for all these efforts for safety :)
On the flipside, though, it's also scary to have all these tech in a vehicle. So many things can go wrong... plus costly maintenance and inevitable repairs.
