Toyota Commands 51 Percent Market Share In Philippines

The Philippine automotive industry continues its recovery by posting an impressive 40.9 percent year-on-year growth in April 2022.

In the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) joint report, new vehicle sales climbed to 25,149 units compared to 17,843 units in April 2021.

CAMPI and TMA said both sales of passenger cars (PC) and commercial vehicles (CV) grew double digits.

Year-on-year growth of the passenger cars segment rose by 12.4 percent to 6,259 units in April this year from 5,570 units in 2021, while commercial vehicle sales jumped by 53.9 percent to 18,890 units from 12,273 units in the same period.

Industry sales from January to April this year also increased by 13.3 percent to 99,903 units from 88,155 units in the same period last year. Seventy-five percent of which are commercial vehicles with sales growth in that period at 24 percent, selling 75,321 units from 60,730 units in the same period in 2021. Meanwhile, passenger car sales declined by 10.4 percent to 24,582 units in the first four months of 2022 from 27,425 units in the same period of the previous year.

However, monthly sales dipped slightly. April 2022 sales registered a 15.3 percent decline compared to March’s record highs. This, though, can be attributed to the Holy Week which reduced the number of selling days.

Last April, Toyota remains the Philippines’ best-selling automotive brand, selling 13,715 units last month—a 9.2 percent decline versus March 2022 sales. They’re followed in second by Mitsubishi with 2,924 units sold (-24.8 percent), and Suzuki in third with 1,738 units (+4.7 percent). Nissan dropped down to fourth with 1,700 units sold (-27.6 percent), and rounding out the top five is Ford with 1,391 units (-28 percent). The rest of the top are: Isuzu, Honda, Kia, Foton, and Hino.

In terms of passenger cars, Toyota is also number one with 3,680 units sold, followed by Mitsubishi at 801 units, and Honda with 712 units. Meanwhile, for commercial vehicles, Toyota hit 10,035 units sold in March, followed by Mitsubishi with 2,123 units and Nissan with 1,578 units.

Year-to-date, Toyota has the highest market share at 50.99 percent or 50,945 units sold, followed by Mitsubishi at 13.28 percent or 13,270 units sold, Nissan at 7.59 percent or 7,586 units sold, and Suzuki Phils., Inc. at 6.30 percent or 6,294 units sold.

  1. Kudos to the car companies :) Of note are the sales performances of Foton and Hino.
How about the sales of Geely and MG (among the top 10 in 2021 sales)?

  3. One of d big advantage of toyota is it has a uniform pricing nationwide. All Other brands has an additional freight n handling charges in der vismin dealerships which increase der price substantially. Geely cebu has a 70k price drfrence vis a vis ncr, mitsu n suzuki iloilo also has 70k

  5. we should have strong number 2 and number 3 para d mawili TMPI in overpricing and stripping car features sa mga model nila. We should also not patronize DNGA cars. Saw the raize and avanza and pang city driving lang mga to I am not sure if they are safe for highway driving.
