Now Available In The Philippines: 2022 Subaru WRX And WRX Wagon

After revealing its pricing and specifications last week, Motor Image Pilipinas, the exclusive distributor of Subaru in the Philippines officially launches the all-new, fifth-generation WRX and WRX Wagon. It’s now available for viewing at all authorized dealerships nationwide.

“The all-new WRX is here to ignite your senses. From its stunning exterior and premium interior, to the sporty sound and powerful performance of its new 2.4-litre turbo boxer engine, the invigorating smell of the exhaust and the exciting handling, the WRX gives a raw driving experience that makes burning rubber fun. I am very confident that both the all-new WRX and WRX Wagon will totally ignite your senses, and remain crowd favorites that are much-loved by Subaru enthusiasts here,” said Mr. Glenn Tan, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director, Tan Chong International Limited.

Compared to its predecessor, the all-new WRX is 75 mm longer, 30 mm wider and 10 mm lower than before, with an additional 25 mm in the wheelbase (2675 mm). Meanwhile, the all-new WRX Wagon is 65 mm longer, 15 mm wider and 10 mm taller than the previous Levorg, with an additional 20 mm in the wheelbase (2670 mm).

Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.4-liter Boxer engine producing 275 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 5,200 rpm. Two transmissions are available for the WRX. The sedan variant gets a choice of hardcore 6-speed manual or a sport-tuned CVT, while the wagon comes solely with the sport-tuned CVT. The CVT-equipped variants also have an idle start-stop for improved fuel consumption.

For its all-wheel drive system, the manual-equipped model uses a viscous-coupling center differential to split the torque evenly at 50/50. For the CVT-equipped models, the all-wheel drive features active torque distribution which varies the power distribution between front and rear wheels as needed (it defaults to 45/55).

Inside, the WRX has a D-shaped steering wheel. Red stitching, carbon inlays, and metallic-colored accents give it an unmistakably racy vibe. At the center is an 11.6-inch tablet-style infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Compared to its predecessor, leg and shoulder room are up and thanks to rear AC vents and dual USB ports, it keeps even those seated in the back comfortable.

All CVT-equipped variants of the WRX comes with Subaru 4.0 EyeSight. This adds a wide gamut of driver assist functionality such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering Function, Pre-Collision Braking with Autonomous Emergency Steering, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Departure Warning with Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Sway Warning, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert. A Driver Monitoring System uses an infrared camera to detect whether a driver is drowsy or distracted. The system also uses facial recognition to register up to five driver profiles recalling certain personal settings such as seats, AC settings, and more.

The WRX tS or Tuned by STI replaces the full-blown WRX STI which won’t be available for this generation. Fully realizing the World Rally eXperiment’s potential, it adds electronically controlled dampers and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. The Wagon also adds a hands-free power tailgate. STI and tS badging adorns the steering wheel and instrument cluster.

The WRX comes in the following variants and prices (tS variants are on an indent order basis):
  • WRX sedan M/T – P 2,508,000
  • WRX sedan CVT – P 2,658,000
  • WRX tS sedan CVT – P 2,808,000
  • WRX CVT wagon – P 2,558,000
  • WRX tS wagon CVT – P 2,708,000

    1. Good question. I'm team BRZ mainly because I just love the handling purity of the sportscar. Of course, I could still change my mind when I get to drive the WRX.

    2. WRX with CVT is slooooooooooow. Really. Just almost as fast as a Civic RS in 0-100.

    3. I am leaning toward BRZ too. Will wait for your review on WRX but BR will take 6 months or more when you make a reservation now

    4. Yeah...I heard the same complaints from other potential BRZ buyers as well. Next shipment is around October/November I hear.
