Suzuki To Build EVs In India

In celebration of Suzuki’s 40th year of doing business in India, the carmaker, through its automobile production subsidiary, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited, has announced plans to build battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the subcontinent.

The confirmation comes as Suzuki laid the cornerstone for its new BEV battery plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana. In addition, a new BEV assembly plant will also be put up there and that one will be established by Suzuki’s subsidiary in India, Maruti Suzuki India Limited. This new assembly plant will have the capacity of around 250,000 vehicles annually for the first year.

Construction of both the BEV battery plant and automobile assembly plants will fully start soon with the assembly plant becoming operational by 2025, and the BEV battery plant by 2026.

Although Suzuki has yet to confirm what these new vehicles are, Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki mentioned that these will fall into the company’s philosophy of Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bei or Smaller, Fewer, Lighter, Shorter, and Neater.

So far, Suzuki has assembled more than 2 million vehicles in India since production started in February 2017. This milestone, achieved in just 5 years and 6 months, is the fastest of any Suzuki production plant globally.

Currently, Suzuki exports products made in India globally to Latin America, Africa, and even the Philippines.

    1. The quality of the made in India Suzuki vehicles for export markets are really good..Suzuki Philippines started selling made in India products like the Alto 800 in the country a decade ago..They're very easy to maintain and the parts are affordable.
It's much cheaper and efficient to manufacture vehicles in India now.
