4xe Is The New 4x4: Jeep Moves Towards Electrified Future

Jeep shows off the first phase of its product offensive to become an electrified SUV brand. Four zero emission vehicles in North America and Europe will be introduced by 2025. By 2030, 50 percent of U.S. sales, and 100 percent of European sales will be composed of battery-electric vehicles.

Shown for the first time is the Jeep Recon—an all-new vehicle that’s designed from the ground up to be a 100 percent all-electric vehicle with true trail-rated capability. The global SUV, which will start production by 2024, will offer Jeep’s trademark off-road prowess thanks to technology such as e-locker axle technology and Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction management system. Moreover, it will offer open-air freedom with a one-touch power top, removable doors and glass.

Joining the Recon is a premium all-electric SUV dubbed the Wagoneer S. This global SUV will offer 600 horsepower giving it a 0 to 100 km/h time of about 3.5 seconds. It will also have a maximum range of about 643 kilometers (400 miles) on a single charge. The Wagoneer S will offer a “sleek, aerodynamic design” marked by a LED-lit grille. Like the Recon, the Wagoneer S’s production starts in 2024.

Outside of the U.S., Jeep will offer the Avenger EV. Positioned under the Renegade, it’s poised to be introduced in several global markets including Japan and South Korea as well. Despite its small stature, it will offer “impressive ground clearance, breakover and departure angles for its segment.” The Avenger will also offer a 643-kilometer range. Unlike the Wagoneer S and Recon, the Avenger will arrive in 2023. It will be showcased on October 17 at the Paris Motor Show.
