2023 Kia EV6 Awarded As Top Safety Pick+

The 2023 Kia EV6 has been awarded the U.S.-based 2022 Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+ rating.

During its crash test evaluation, the EV6 earned ratings of “good” in all six 2022 IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side (original 2022 test), roof strength, and head restraint tests. It also earned a “superior” rating for available front crash prevention in terms of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. Its standard headlights also received a “good” rating.

The EV6 is Kia’s first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) and signaled the start of Kia’s Plan S strategy that aims to deliver 13 all-new electrified models globally by 2027.

Under Philippine distributor, AC Motors, the Kia EV6 will make its Philippine launch in the first quarter of 2023.

Kia Philippines has confirmed that they’ll be bringing in the EV6 GT-Line equipped with the long-range (77.4-kWh) battery and rear-wheel drive. This combination will allow it to travel over 500 kilometers on a single charge. Combine that with Ayala Land’s strategically located charging stations, it should eliminate any range-anxiety concerns.

The Philippine market EV6 will also have the complete roster of advanced driver assist technology such as Auto Emergency Braking Technology; Blind Spot Detection Technology; Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist; Lane Keeping & Assist Technology; Smart Cruise Control w/ Stop & Go; Highway Driving Assist; Safe Exit Assist; and 360-degree surround view camera.

Its high-voltage battery system also has an IP66 rating making it enclosed and resistant to water splashes. The EV6 is also equipped with a water-sensing system. In the unlikely event of water intrusion, it automatically shuts off the EV system if water exposure is beyond safety standards.

The EV6 is projected to have a “below P 4-million” price tag.

  3. More or less 3.8 mil using direct Malaysian Ringgit exchange. Still the bar is high. We need more mass-market offerings to encourage adoption. In the short term, early adopters will need to fork out millions to buy one.
