Modern Jeepneys Found To Be Up To 40 Percent More Efficient Than Traditional Jeepneys

The Fuso Canter Express Modern PUV (Class 3) achieved 8.8 km/L as certified by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) during its fuel eco-run challenge. This means operators stand to save up to P 6.3 per kilometer compared to traditional jeepneys and their 5.2 km/L average fuel consumption.

Unlike typical fuel economy runs, the Canter Express Modern PUV was subjected to conditions similar to that of an actual PUV operating from passenger load to road conditions. It was driven from San Fernando, Pampanga to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan, and back.

The objective of the Fuso Fuel Eco-Run Challenge is to promote and advocate the fuel efficiency of its commercial vehicles to existing owners and prospective buyers—to highlight fuel mileage, driving comfort, and the vehicle’s performance.

“Moving forward, today’s activity is for us to testify the fuel efficiency of our product. Results will be included as part of the unique selling point and advantage of FUSO vehicles. We assure you that FUSO is ready to provide the best quality and hassle-free transportation to Filipinos across the country.” said Mr. Yosuke Nishi, the President and CEO of SFP.

Mr. Noriyuki Sekita, EVP for Sales and Marketing mentioned in his message, “The goal of this activity is to demonstrate the Unique Selling Point (USP) of our PUVs, which is fuel efficiency and vehicle performance. Our initiative is to showcase the efficiency of our vehicles under normal driving conditions for the benefit of operators and drivers.”

  1. The road test should be done on the routes of the traditional jeepneys in Metro Manila. One example is the Monumento to Baclaran stop & go to traffic route.

    1. Government approved design to replace the traditional jeepney. For example, it must allow for standing passengers inside. Must have certain number of exits, etc. etc. Using a truck head as basis also reduces the unit cost.
