2023 BMW iX3 Arrives In The Philippines For P 4.590M (w/ Specs)

After launching its flagship iX in April 2022, SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation, the official distributor of BMW in the Philippines continues its electrification journey with the first-ever BMW iX3.

Unlike the BMW iX which rides on a bespoke EV platform, the iX3 rides on the same architecture shared with the best-selling X3 line. Ultimately, it shows the flexibility of the platform because it continues to have uncompromising space for five adults and luggage capacity peaking at 1,560 liters.

Separating the iX3 from the rest of the X3 line is a larger double kidney grille that’s now been “fused.” Like other members of the BMW i family, it features a pearl-effect chrome with a blue accent. Even the inner surfaces of the grille now have a mesh-like structure and a BMW i badge as well. For the Philippine market, the BMW iX3 rides on aero optimized 19-inch alloy wheels, which together with the standard M Sport package, drops the co-efficient of drag to 0.29—boosting its overall range.

Underneath the hood, the iX3 runs on BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive powertrain. Also found in the BMW iX, this highly-integrated unit brings the electric motor, power electronics, and single gear transmission together within a single housing. Powering exclusively the rear wheels, it makes a healthy 286 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. Zero to 100 km/h is pegged at 6.8 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h.

More important in the age of EVs, the integrated power unit displays exceptional efficiency—up to 93 percent and together with its 80-kWh battery delivers a range of 460 kilometers. Compared to the diesel-powered X3 xDrive 20d, its carbon footprint (well-to-wheel) is, on average, more than 30 percent better, peaking at 60 percent when purely sustainable energy is used.

Charging the BMW iX3 can be done via a single-phase domestic household socket (up to 7.4-kW), three-phase AC charging (up to 11 kW), or DC fast charging (150 kW).

Inside, the BMW iX3 features two 12.3-inch displays—one serving as the instrument cluster, and the other as the control display to the infotainment system. Blue accents on the starter button—now located in the center console—allude to the pure electric drive system, while the BMW i logo adorns the door sill plates as well as elements of the instrument and control display screens. Even the standard ambient lighting features the BMW i blue illumination as a default.

Arriving in the Inspiring line, the local spec BMW iX3 comes with adaptive suspension, sports leather steering wheel, a panoramic glass roof, three-zone climate control, a Harman Kardon sound system, wireless charging, and Sensatec perforated upholstery with front sport seats.

The Philippines will be sourcing the BMW iX3 from the only plant in the world producing it: the BMW Brilliance Automotive joint-venture in Shenyang, China. The sole variant, the iX3 M Sport Inspiring is priced at P 4,590,000 and comes with a 5-year BMW factory warranty, an 8-year warranty for its high-voltage battery, and 6-year BMW Service Inclusive warranty.

    1. But of course you would prefer to have something made from its own home country, like a BMW made in Germany, or a Toyota made in Japan. It feels more special.
