Foton PH Gives More Details On First-Ever EV Truck

Foton Motor Philippines has revealed more info surrounding the country’s first EV light-duty truck which will be launched at the Foton Big Show 2023 in February.

Accompanying a shadowy teaser photo on its official Instagram page (see below), Foton Motor Philippines has outlined its four key features:
  • Zero Emissions
  • 81-kW CATL battery
  • Quiet and reduced carbon operation
  • 2.5T tare weight cab chassis
Now, aside from these four points, Foton hasn’t divulged anything official yet, but upon closer inspection, the specifications closely align with the Foton iBlue ET6 which is being offered in the European and Australian markets as a zero emissions alternative to diesel-fed trucks.

If the Philippines gets this particular Foton EV truck, it measures in at 5,960 mm in length, 1,950 mm in width, and 2,260 mm in height. Its wheelbase spans 3,360 mm.

The Foton iBlue ET6’s permanent magnet synchronous direct drive motor is rated at 407 peak horsepower enough for a top speed of 95 km/h. Its single gear transmission and 450 Nm of torque from zero rpm enables it to climb up gradients of up to 21 percent while carrying payloads of up 1.4 tons (gross vehicle weight is 4.5 tons).

The battery, a 81-kWh lithium-iron phosphate system, sourced from Chinese battery giant CATL, is cooled using fans and an auxiliary water tank giving it a maximum range of about 400 kilometers. It can be charged in as little as 1.5 hours (DC fast charging), but “slow” AC charging takes up to 14 hours.

Features of the Foton iBlue ET6 include electric power steering, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control with hill start assist, and more.
