The RAM 1500 Revolution BEV Concept Is A "Brutiful" Three-Row Pickup Truck

Ram Trucks showed their first step to the future with the Ram 1500 Revolution—a battery electric vehicle concept that will head into production (in some capacity) by 2024.

The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept starts out with an ultra-modern design concept that the brand calls, “brutiful.” It has an animated and modernized RAM badge, surrounded by the lit tuning fork design. LED lights have also been integrated into the front bumper flares, animated LED taillights and badging. And further building on their reputation as America’s truck leader, the fascia integrates a skid plate and tow hooks that sit flush.

The Ram 1500 Revolution has a powered “frunk” with a one-touch open-and-close functionality. Other powered features on the concept include the charging port, tailgate, door handles, side steps, and rear step (with a built-in diffuser for good measure).

Riding on Stellantis’ STLA Frame EV platform, the Ram 1500 Revolution has never-before-seen flexibility in its class. The “grand saloon” style doors open to a cavernous cabin that’s around 101 millimeters or 4 inches longer than the current Ram 1500. The absence of a B-pillar contributes to a “one space environment” which Ram calls limo-like.

In addition, the Ram 1500 Revolution’s flat interior floor helps create space for third-row jump seats. A removable lower section helps placement in the bed or outside the vehicle, while a powered glass enables a pass-through that can fit objects up to 18 feet (5,486 mm) with the tailgate closed.

Moving forward, the center console can even be removed with the center console armrest converting to a workstation surface. Even the seats themselves integrate the seatbelts, grab handles, and speakers for increased flexibility. Not only do they fold flat, but offer extended recline and even conference modes.

A full touchscreen display comprised of two screens offers up to 28 inches of screen space as the centerpiece of an interior loaded with advanced technology. The lower display has three different positions depending on the task at hand. The upper screen can also slide on the Ram rail attachment system, while the flat-top and bottom steering wheel can be collapsed when engaging Level 3+ autonomous driving mode.

Speaking of autonomous driving mode, it has a “follow me” Shadow Mode. This allows the Ram 1500 Revolution to automatically follow the driver walking ahead of the vehicle. This is useful in situations where the driver needs to move a short distance and doesn’t want to get back in the truck such as picking up tools or equipment from a job site.

The Ram 1500 Revolution features all-wheel drive capability and is powered by two electric motors—one on each axle. No performance specifications were given, but Ram did promise the capability to install larger capacity electric drives for high-performance applications. The 800-volt DC fast charging architecture also allows fast charging at up to 350 kW.

A body-on-frame design allows Ram to package the battery pack efficiently, while the four-wheel steering offers up to 15 degrees of articulation, offering greater vehicle maneuverability while parking at low speed, or on off-road trails. An adjustable air suspension also offers three different modes: ingress/egress, aero, off-road.

The production version of the Ram 1500 Revolution is due in 2024 and will be joined by a portfolio of more fully electrified solutions.
