BMW Thinks The Future Of Car Gauges Will Look Like This

BMW thinks the future of car instrumentation would look something like their BMW Panoramic Vision concept.

Confirmed to go into production in vehicles using the Neue Klasse (New Class) EV platform, it will use the entire width of the windshield to project a variety of information not just for the driver, but for the passengers as well.

The carmaker says that the BMW Panoramic Vision opens new possibilities for design. It shows information that’s relevant for both driver and passengers with a higher light intensity and contrast onto a dark-coated area at the lower edge of the windshield. Some personalization can be done such as having the driver decide to display information in just their own field of vision, or share content with other occupants. More importantly, the design will also create a more clearly structured cockpit with a focus on space.

The BMW Panoramic Vision is just part of a new control structure that the carmaker will roll out. The BMW iDrive, for example, will switch over to a touchscreen-based format while ditching the familiar controller knob.

BMW will reveal more information on the Neue Klasse at the IAA Mobility Show (aka Frankfurt Motor Show) in September.
