Hyundai Spices Up The Executive Sedan Segment With 2024 Sonata

After showing off its head-turning style and revealing its initial specifications, Hyundai revealed more details about the updated eighth-generation Sonata.

Significantly updated, the 2024 Sonata now has Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design complete with the trademark Seamless Horizon Lamp that integrates the DRLs, positioning, and turn signals, and the wide-set hidden headlamps. An available N Line adds an even more dynamic style with an enlarged front bumper grille area, 19-inch wheels, rear spoiler, and dual twin-tip mufflers.

The sporty looks are backed up by improved powertrains starting with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine in both normally-aspirated and turbocharged flavors, and a 2.0-liter hybrid. The 2.5-liter turbo was developed especially for the N Line. The N Line also has Active Sound Design, Launch Control, N Powershift, and Rev Matching technology.

Meanwhile, the hybrid model is equipped with e-Motion Drive that includes, for the first time, paddle shifter and a regenerative braking mode for increased efficiency.

Improved engines aside, the Sonata also gets a tweaked body structure that improves driving stability and strengthened side collision protection. Body reinforcements also improve NVH performance, while the updated brakes help it achieve best-in-class braking performance and braking distance.

Inside, the Sonata features a Hyundai-first panoramic curved display with a dual 12.3-inch screens—one for the driver and another for the passenger. Likewise, the heads-up display shows itself as a 12-inch projection on the windshield. Features include a 12-speaker Bose sound system with the new CenterPoint 360 technology that delivers a rich and immersive listening experience in every seat. It also has a first-in-class power trunk for added luxury.

The new model takes convenience to the next level with continuous Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates, allowing car owners to save on cost and have their cars maintained with the latest software, providing an upgradable experience.

In terms of safety, the Sonata comes with a full suite of advanced driver assist functions including a Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control system, Highway Driving Assist, and even a Remote Smart Parking Assist that enables the user to park the vehicle and exit parking spots by remotely reversing and forwarding with the smart key from outside the vehicle.

The 2024 Sonata is expected to launch in global markets later this year.
