Kia Concept EV5 Previews Upcoming All-Electric Compact SUV

After revealing the boxy, brutalist look of the EV9 three-row SUV, Kia’s not stopping there. The Korean automaker pulled the wraps off the Concept EV5—their next all-electric offering that’ll head to production later this year.

Taking on Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy, it gives an intriguing glimpse of their aesthetic direction when it comes to their fully electric models. It fuses seemingly contrasting influences of nature and modernity to create a rather unique look. The Concept EV5, in particular, is going for a “borderless life” approach which removes the “boundary between their enjoyment and appreciation of nature and the city.”

The clean, progressive look of the Concept EV5 features the “Digital Tiger Face” as well as the Kia “Star Map” signature lighting technology. The futuristic lighting here, however, extends down to the side confirming its status as a pure EV. The sculpted lines, squared off fenders, and powerful stance is amplified by a new color: Iceberg matte green, while 21-inch wheels fill in each corner.

Inside, the same nature inspiration is found with the Concept EV5 featuring a greater freedom with its “space of coexistence” motif. The completely flat floor realizes this, while the design themes are centered around Healing, Caring, and Re-Charging. The interior palette brings a sense of calmness and purity, juxtaposed with the application of technology with its large, wide panoramic display.

The Concept EV5 blurs the boundaries between outdoor and indoor spaces with features such as innovative swiveling seats, a full-length panoramic sunroof, and a bridge lighting technology that can be adjusted to suit the needs and moods of the applicants.

Furthermore, to implement the brand’s sustainable development strategy, various sustainable items are deployed, including plant-based materials like seaweed extract and upcycled PET bottles on the seats, doors, dashboard, and headliner, setting new standards of sustainability without the use of animal leather.

The production model of the EV5 will be released first in the Chinese market later this year.
