Mazda CX-60 Launching In The Philippines This June

After a market study that started last November, it’s finally happening: Mazda Philippines is entering the luxury space with the first-ever CX-60 this June.

The Mazda CX-60 is the first vehicle part of the Large Product Group. As such, it will use a front-engine, rear-wheel drive platform (all-wheel drive is also available) with a longitudinally-mounted engine. The front double wishbone and rear multi-link suspension is engineered to maximize the innate human ability to balance itself, backed up by Kinematic Posture Control—a technology which made its debut on the MX-5.

The interior of the CX-60 introduces the ideas of Kaichou—an element of disruption which mixes different materials and textures. These materials include real maple wood and nappa leather as well as Japanese textiles and chrome detailing. It even puts Japanese stitching—Kakenui—front and center with the dash fabrics using a “hanging stitch” seam to expose the material beneath.

Style-wise, the front-engine, rear-wheel architecture is apparent with the CX-60 proportions. No word on which styling pack the Philippines will have, but in other countries, it can be had with elegant chrome or high-gloss black accents. Either way, features include 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and the newest Takuminuri color: Rhodium White.

Not much is known on the CX-60’s local specs, but Mazda did receive homologation for both the gas- and diesel-fed hybrid inline-6. Featuring 3.3 liters of displacement, both these engines have a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The “right-sized” powertrain helps the CX-60 achieve a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 6.9 seconds for the gas and 7.3 seconds for the diesel thanks to a unique multi-plate clutch (not dual clutch, not torque converter) 8-speed automatic. The powertrain combo also helps return fuel economy figures better than the CX-5 AWD Sport (non-turbo).

Produced at Mazda’s Hofu Plant in Yamaguchi prefecture, the Mazda CX-60 has a rather convoluted pricing scheme. In Europe, for example, it is more expensive than the CX-5 with a starting price that already puts it in the P 3-million range. For Japan, meanwhile, it is sandwiched by the CX-5 and CX-8. Assuming the Philippines follows Japan, expect it to be priced around P 2.5- to P 3-million.

Of course, everything will be revealed come June 9, but before then, check out the global specifications below to get an idea of what we could be getting:
