Lexus Teases All-New GX SUV

If you thought Lexus would have forgotten about its long-serving GX; they didn’t. Their full-sized body-on-frame SUV (and twin to the Land Cruiser Prado) is getting its first full redesign in 14 years, and here’s their first official teaser.

Lexus released two tightly cropped teaser shots of the all-new GX which shows the new SUV in muddy, off-road conditions—a clear sign that the carmaker won’t be going soft with this new-generation model. In fact, based on the angular cues, it might go a step further, perhaps aping the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes-Benz G-Class when it comes to off-road chops.

Naturally, Lexus didn’t divulge details about the all-new GX, but it is expected to gain the Lexus LX’s twin-turbocharged V6, albeit detuned. Another option would be to go the hybrid route and for that, it could use the Lexus RX’s turbocharged 2.4-liter + electric motor combo. For diesel lovers, the GX might gain a version of the Land Cruiser 300’s 3.3-liter twin turbo diesel, or even a hybrid version of the 1GD-FTV 2.8-liter 4-cylinder.

No timeline was given as to the Lexus GX’s launch, but expect it to happen around the same time as the first-ever Lexus TX—the brand’s new unibody three-row SUV.
