Next-Generation Ford Territory Scores 5-Star Rating At Crash Safety Test

After the first-generation Territory’s dismal showing in China’s New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP) where testers even noted an open flame when the front passenger pretensioner deployed, Ford has more than rectified the situation with the next-generation model.

This time around, the next-generation Territory managed to score a perfect 5-star safety rating with cumulative score of 86.8 out of 100.

Going into detail, with occupant protection having the highest weight (60 percent), the Territory scored a spectacular 53.91 percent. For pedestrian protection, which accounts for 15 percent of the score, it managed a solid 10.9 percent. Finally, in active safety, which makes up 25 percent of the total, the Territory scored 22 percent.

Though Ford Philippines insists to call the Territory a small SUV, in China, it’s in the mid-sized / large SUV segment (it’s a heavy boy with a 1,630-kilogram curb weight). Even then, its scores are impressive for its class easily beating out the class averages:
  • Cumulative Score: 73.5 percent (Ford Territory: 86.8 percent)
  • Active Safety: 72.11 percent (Ford Territory: 87.98 percent)
  • Pedestrian Protection: 69.24 percent (Ford Territory: 72.65 percent)
  • Occupant Protection: 75.20 percent (Ford Territory: 89.85 percent)
