Foton Motor PH Lowers Prices, Adds Variants To Thunder Pickup, GTL Truck Range

Commercial vehicle specialist Foton Motor Philippines just made its Thunder pickup truck and GTL trucks more affordable.

The first Chinese car brand to enter the Top 10 automotive companies in the country in terms of sales, announced its new lower prices for the whole Thunder pickup truck line.

The Thunder pickup now starts under P1 million, with a retail price of P 980,000 for the Thunder 4x2 EL M/T.

The pricing of the rest of the Thunder range is as follows:
  • Thunder 4x2 EL MT – P 980,000
  • Thunder 4x2 MT – P 1,080,000
  • Thunder 4x2 EL AT – P 1,050,000
  • Thunder 4x2 AT – P 1,150,000
  • Thunder 4x2 AT Sports – P 1,200,000
  • Thunder 4x4 MT – P 1,198,000
“With the new price positioning, we are looking forward to see more customers considering and availing of the new Thunder pickup as their ‘modern-day workhorse,’” said Foton Motor Philippines General Manager Levy Santos.

“This is an excellent opportunity for us to be able to offer a pickup truck as large, as durable and reliable, as easy to maintain, and as stylish as any modern pickup on the market today—but at a substantially more affordable price point. We now offer the most affordable range of pickups, whether you’re looking for an entry-level, midrange, or top-of-the-line model,” Santos added.

Like most other Foton models, the new Thunder is proudly assembled by Filipinos at the Foton plant in Clark, Pampanga. The new truck is powered by a third-generation turbocharged 2.0-liter CRDi diesel engine generating 160 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and a torque rating of 390 Nm. It has a one-ton payload capacity.

The Thunder pickup comes with rollbars and cargo hooks (on the 4x2 MT, 4x2 AT, and 4x2 AT Sports), large LED taillamps, LED DRLs and fog lamps, and a large sporty grille bearing prominent Foton branding. Inside, it has a 6-way power-adjustable driver seat in leather, a 10.25-inch floating LCD touchscreen, a 6-inch digital LCD instrument panel, and ambient lighting (all variants except 4x2 MT and 4x2 EL MT).

Modern car-like comfort and convenience features include Engine Start/Stop button, Car Finder Button, and Manual Climate Control.

The new Thunder comes with the latest Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Antilock Braking System (ABS). It has dual front SRS airbags too.

Likewise, Foton is also announcing new variants for its best-selling GTL line of trucks. The new variants and SRPs are as follows:
  • GTL 4x2 Tractor Head – P 2,600,000
  • GTL 6x4 Tractor Head – P 3,100,000
  • GTL 4x4 Dump Truck – P 3,000,000
The Thunder pickup comes with a 5-year/150,000 kms warranty, GTL 6x4 Dump Truck comes with a 1-year unlimited mileage warranty, and the GTL 4x2 and 6x4 Tractor Heads come with a 2-year / Unlimited Mileage warranty. This is further backed by Foton’s extensive customer service program that includes the first-in-the-industry onsite service, EC Mobile Truck.

Foton also boasts hassle-free parts availability through Foton EC Parts, where large quantities of spare parts (as many as 65,000 line items) are stored in a 4,100-square meter area dedicated exclusively for storing Foton spare parts.

  2. Underpowered and still pricy for the brand, add a little more n just buy a ranger. Priced difference can be coped up later on reliabilityDurability n high resale value of ranger vs foto

  4. I tested this truck during Foton show this year and I could say Can Compete with the Japanese rivals. It just a big mistake from management to price it expensive. They were carried away by its newness in its lineup of vehicles but let see if the c
    Adjustment of prices favored them.
