2024 Mazda CX-90 Earns Highest Safety Rating; PH Launch Slated For September 22

Ahead of its official Philippine debut on September 22, Mazda’s flagship three-row SUV, the 2024 CX-90 has been awarded with the U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)’s highest rating: the 2023 Top Safety Pick+.

To qualify for the 2023 Top Safety Pick+, the CX-90 earned “good” ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front and updated side impact tests. It must either have “acceptable” or “good” headlights across all trims, and be equipped with a front crash prevention system that earns “advanced” or “superior ratings” in both the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.

The CX-90 joins the Mazda3, CX-30, and CX-5 as vehicles to have earned the 2023 IIHS Top Safety Pick ward.

Announced last June, the Mazda CX-90 is the largest member of the Large Product Platform group—the same platform that underpins the CX-60. The front-engine, rear-wheel-biased longitudinal powertrain layout elevates driving performance. The optimized rigidity and Kinetic Posture Control also offer enhanced levels of grip, balance, and control.

Mazda Philippines has confirmed that only one engine will be made available. With that, the CX-90 comes with an electrified 3.3-liter inline-6 gasoline engine (e-Skyactiv-G). This is mated to an multi-plate 8-speed automatic.

The Mazda CX-90 will complement the rest of the three-row Mazda SUV range that include the CX-8 and CX-9. The CX-9 will not be discontinued and will remain in the line-up into the 2024 model year.
